Zoom Zoom!

I've always wanted to try this technique out but never remembered to actually try it while shooting. Recently I remembered and gave it a try. This was my first attempt. What you see is the Cache La Poudre River.

The technique is simple. Just change the zoom on your camera during the exposure. To get smooth lines, start the zoom before you hit the shutter and continue until after the shutter has closed. Slower shutter speeds are obviously best. Experiment to get the right shutter speed and speed of zoom.

miccobayb, you totally should! This technique is a lot of fun. The next time I try this I'm going to combine the technique with the use of second curtain sync flash to freeze the subject at the end of the zoom.

I'll post the results when I do.
